福禄寿は道教で強く希求される3種の願い、すなわち幸福、封禄、長寿の三徳を具現化したものと云われている。容姿としては、背が低く長頭で長い髭をはやし、杖に経巻を結び、鶴を伴っている姿とされる。

Fukurokujyu is said to embody three types of wishes stongly sought by Taoism:Happiness, Treasure,and Longevity. In terms of appearance, it is a figure with a short,long-headed,a cane with a roll, and a crane.
