ごあいさつ
輪切りにした木の断面へ彫刻する、木口木版(こぐちもくはん)技法で制作をしています。
入口も出口もない内面世界の温室に産まれた少女たちの密やかな感情を、白と黒の世界で描きます。

I use the koguchimokuhan (woodblock print) technique of engraving on a section of wood that has been sliced into rings.
In a world of black and white, I depict the secret emotions of girls born in a greenhouse of an inner world with no entrance or exit.
Akaike Momoko
カイロウドウケツという不思議な海の生物がいます。海綿状のその体の中には、なぜか二匹のエビが幼少の頃から住んでおり、成長したエビたちは一生その中から出られないという奇怪な生態を持ちます。（通常はそのエビは雌雄なので、よく結婚式のお祝いに「偕老同穴の契り」という言葉が使われることがありますね。）
赤池さんの作品に登場する少女たちは、少女期特有のガラス細工のような繊細さと排他性を感じさせます。その艶髪のうねりと絡み合う植物の蔓や葉が濃密な空気感を漂わせ、出口の無い息詰まりとそれがゆえの恍惚感に、うっとりと見入ってしまいます。彼女たちは姉妹なのか親友なのか、それとも愛で互いを縛りあう同士なのか、その関係性は偕老同穴のような永久性なのか、それとも若さゆえの「今が永遠に感じる」その感覚なのか・・・。
輪切りした木の断面をビュランで彫っていく木口木版の細い線、そして黒と紙色だけの表現が画面に純粋さと優艶さを共存させています。少女たちもさることながら、花や葉の描写の見事さよ。
赤池ももこさんの作品は、自分の部屋に飾り、または手元に置いて密やかに眺めていたい、そんな作品です。（岡村）
There is a mysterious sea creature called the Venus' Flower Basket. Its sponge-like body is somehow inhabited by two shrimps from childhood, and the grown-up shrimps have the bizarre ecology of not being able to leave it for the rest of their lives. (Usually those shrimp are male and female, hence the term "kairou douku no Tigiri," which is often used in wedding celebrations.)
The girls in Akaike's works evoke the delicacy and exclusivity of glasswork characteristic of girlhood. The undulation of their glossy hair and the intertwining vines and leaves of the plants create a dense atmosphere, and we are enraptured by the feeling of stifling without exit and the ecstasy that comes with it. Are they sisters or best friends, or are they bound to each other by love, or is their relationship permanent like that of Kairou-douku, or is it the feeling of "now feels like forever" due to their youth?
The fine lines of the woodblock engraved with a burin on a section of wood cut in a circle, and the use of only black and paper colors give the painting a sense of purity and grace. The girls, as well as the flowers and leaves, are beautifully depicted.
Momoko Akaike's work is the kind of work that one would like to display in one's room or keep at hand to look at in secret.
